Kids who grow up in deprived communities face numerous challenges, ranging from a lack of basic resources to horrific abuse. Such things, of course, affect kids in profound ways. And when they come into the church, they don’t leave their painful experiences at the door.
Simply put, kids from the schemes are sinned against in all kinds of ways. It’s one of the a tragic realities of living in a fallen world. But we also know that they themselves are sinners (Rom. 3:23) in desperate need of the gospel. So how can those involved in youth work in difficult communities shine the light of the gospel into these little lives so often clouded in darkness?
