We put this question to Lewis Allen recently when he was with us for a church weekend away. This is one of the most popular questions we are asked when it comes to ministry in schemes and council estates. There are many who think we should dispense with the sermon full stop and just have a more discussional approach to Sunday ministry. We disagree.
The problem, we find, with sermons comes down to the person preaching, and not with the Word itself. Many people are just unable to preach passionately (with conviction) and cannot ground the sermon in real life.
We need to get rid of boring preachers, not biblical sermons.
